Privacy Policy — PollPal

PollPal ("the App") provides social shopping polls for Shopify stores ("the Service") to merchants who use Shopify to power their stores. This Privacy Policy describes how personal information is collected, used, and shared when you install or use the App in connection with your Shopify-supported store, and when shoppers interact with polls created through the App.

Information the App collects from merchants

When you install the App, we access basic store information through the Shopify API: your shop domain, store name, store contact email, and theme configuration (to detect whether the PollPal widget is enabled). We store your widget settings, the polls created on your storefront, and subscription lifecycle events (e.g. trial started, subscription active or cancelled) to operate billing and measure the Service. Your contact email is used only for occasional service emails about your account — such as a one-time note when your store's first poll receives votes — never for marketing lists, and it is never shared or sold. We do not access your customer lists, orders, or payment information in the current version of the App.

Information the App collects from shoppers

When a shopper creates a poll: the products/variants they selected, an optional poll title, and — only if they opt in to vote notifications — their email address. When a friend votes: the selected options, the first name they type, and a technical identifier stored in their browser (localStorage) used to prevent duplicate voting. IP addresses are processed transiently for rate limiting and abuse prevention.

How we use the information

Poll data is used solely to operate the Service: displaying polls and results, sending opt-in vote notification emails to poll creators, and showing aggregate engagement metrics (polls created, votes, clicks) to the merchant. We do not sell or share personal information with third parties for marketing. Notification emails are sent through Resend (our email processor).

Data retention & erasure

Poll data is retained while the App is installed. When the App is uninstalled, all shop data (polls, votes, settings, sessions) is deleted. We honor Shopify GDPR webhooks: customer data requests, customer data erasure, and shop data erasure are processed automatically. Poll creators can request removal of their email at any time via the support contact below.

Cookies & local storage

The storefront widget uses browser localStorage for strictly functional purposes: remembering recently viewed products (to build polls), a random voter identifier (duplicate-vote prevention), and whether a prompt was already shown. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies are used by the App.

Analytics

The merchant dashboard (the admin interface you use, not your storefront) may use an analytics service such as Google Analytics to understand aggregate feature usage and improve the App. No analytics or tracking scripts run on your storefront or on your shoppers' poll pages. Our public marketing pages may also use privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics.

Changes

We may update this policy to reflect changes to our practices or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The latest version is always available at this URL.
